Architecture: From Prehistory to Climate Emergency

• Modernism, which is still seen as a basis for architecture (and taught in architecture schools as such), is fundamentally unfit for the climate emergency. It was conceived in a time when energy hungry buildings were seen as beneficial because they stimulate economic growth and represent a brave new world.
• The buildings were 'universal', and so could be deployed all over the world, so anyone can 'benefit' from the western ideal lifestyle. A skyscraper in Copenhagen and a skyscraper in Nairobi can have the same inner climate, people wearing the same clothes inside, etc. All through fossil fuels being used to equalise the climate inside. We now know this cannot go on.
